Prices check on woollens
(!9.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 10. The Department of Industries and Commerce had been asked to analyse assertions that the price of woollen goods would rise because of nigh prices for New Zealand wool, said the Prime Minister (Mr Marshall).
The analysis would be made particularly in the light of contentions that when the price of wool fell very low there was little effect on the price of goods. The Cabinet had discussed the booming wool prices this afternoon, Mr Marshall said, and would continue to watch developments closely. The higher prices would, in the short term, be a very considerable boost to sheepfarmers’ incomes, taxation, and overseas funds.
"Against that has to be set the longer-term effect on the use of wool and the price of woollen products,” Mr Marshall said.
