Layman as Moderator

A layman was elected to the position of Moderator of the Presbytery of Christchurch for 1973 at a meeting of the Presbytery last even-* ing. He is Mr A. M. Simson, of the Hoon Hay Parish. The last layman to serve as moderator was Mr G. W. Wallis, who held the position in 1968. The present moderator is the Rev. L. Jones, minister of St Paul’s Trinity Pacific Church. Mr Simson has been session clerk of the Hoon Hay parish since its inception 13 years ago. He served as convener of the Presbytery’s property and finance committee for four years, from 1967 to 1970.

His appointment as moderator will take effect from the Presbytery’s next meeting, on December 12. A reception was held by the Presbytery for Sister Jean Alexander, who has retired as deaconess and as a member of the committee which runs the Presbyterian news paper, *‘Outlook.*’
