Victory for La’Avassa

AUCKLAND. “BxtUlng" La’Avasaa gained his twenty-fourth consecutive boxing victory with a technical knock-out of the Aucklander, M. Manuela, In the seventh round of their middle-weight contest in the Sheraton Lounge last night.
La’Avassa, despite Manuela’s display of bravado in the fourth round when he frequently dropped his gloves and Invited La’Avassa to try and hit him harder, was far too classy for Manuela, and he won every round with crisp well-placed punches which amounted to scientific demolition of a brave, but foolhardy opponent. Although worried at times by Manuela’s good defensive style, La’Avassa eventually sorted him out, and halfway through the seventh round winded him with a left hook. As Manuela staggered against the ropes gasping and clasping his arms around his middle, La’Avassa clipped him on the jaw with a right cross and another left, and the referee stepped in and raised La’Avassa’s arm In victory. La’Avassa’s next encounter is a New Zealand middle-weight title bout against K. Mahanga, of Tokoroa. outdoors at Stanley Street tennis courts on Monday, October 23.
