Closer ties
The Lord Mayor of Adelaide (Mr W. H. Hayes) wilL at his own request, meet representatives of Christchurch sporting, service, and commercial organisations in the City Council chamber on Monday morning. Mr Hayes is visiting Christchurch as the first citizen of its “sister-city” Adelaide. Closer cultural tics between the two cities have been sought in recent years. Before he left Adelaide for Christchurch, Mr Hayes met representatives of a “broad spectrum” in his city and discussed ways and means of obtaining closer cultural, commercial, sporting, and community service ties between Adelaide and Christchurch. The Mayor of Christchurch (Mr N. G. Pickering) will chair the meeting on Monday. Representatives of 26 sporting bodies have been invited to the meeting. The Canterbury Public Relations Officer (Mr A. Mackenzie), representatives of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association, the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce. Jaycees. Rotary, and Dons have also been invited.
