A qualified Inspector of Health undertakes public health work, which is interesting and varied and entails organising projects, investigations, and field work. After completing the course the trainees will be posted to one of 18 health districts for practical training before taking, in May, 1974, the examination for the Public Health Inspectors’ Diploma of the Royal Society of Health. Salary during training is $3122 a year, increasing to $3451 on December 1, 1973, then to $3737 on qualification, a later progression to $3879 two years after appointment as a trainee, and then by annual rises to $4639. Opportunities for further promotion to positions in a salary range from $4829 to $7407 are good. Applicants should be between the age of 20 and 30 years, should hold the University Entrance Examination or lower 6th Form Certificate with passes in English, chemistry and two other subjects (at School Certificate level) may be considered. The appointee will fill the position of Manager of the 1200 acre Waitangi National Trust area adjacent to Paihia in the Bay of Islands. He will be responsible to the Trust Board for the local administration of this area including the Treaty House and will be expected to advise the Board on development desirable for the area.
