Burnside market

(N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, September 29. Values for cows, heifers and light-weight steers rose by $5 to $6 a head at Burnside market this week, with heavy-weights selling on a par with last week. The yarding of 291 prime beef cattle contained a greater percentage of light and mediumweights than at last week’s sale. The over-all quality of the 49 runners and vealers offered was good, values improving by $3 a head on recent rates. Among the 68 store cattle were two or three pens of forward-condition two-year-old steers, which sold from $l2O to $127. A pen of yearling steers and some small two-year-old heifers with calves at foot realised $lOO. Only 72 pigs were offered. Bidding was keen and values improved by $2 a head. Values for the 500 lambs yarded remained firm at last week’s level. The quality of the 1620 adult sheep penned was very mixed and a number were showing the effects of the recent bad weather.
