Big theft of fish

(N.Z. Press Association)

AUCKLAND, Sept. 28. Thieves stole 30001 b of freshly-caught snapper from the hold of a fishing boat moored at the Auckland Fishermen’s Basin last night. They raided the trawler Daisy Belle and stole about a quarter of the catch.

After lifting a hatch-cover they swung 30 baskets of fish on to the side of the wharf and escaped, apparently unnoticed, in a vehicle.

The owner-skipper of the Daisy Belle, Mr J. Paki, and his two deckhands moored the trawler near the JBL Seafood, Ltd, factory at 9 p.m. and went home. '

The missing catch was worth $270 to the fishermen.
