UNITED SPORTS

Federation

move

LV.Z Pre*t Association) AUCKLAND. National presidents and chairmen of all recognised sports bodies in the country have been invited to a meeting in Wellington on October 14 to form a New Zealand Federation of Sport. Guest speakers will be the Prime Minister (Mr Marshall), the Deputy Leader of the Opposition (Mr Watt), and the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Highet).

Mr J. Buckingham, chairman of the Auckland federation. which, with Canterbury, called the meeting, said yesterday that about 54 sports organisations who provide for nearly 800,000 men, women and children, would be represented.

'■The meeting is to form a national federation which can effectively negotiate with the Government for the introduction of financial aid to sport,” he added. “The provincial federations are convinced that the only way sport in New Zealand will receive Government support such as the arts are now enjoying, is by uniting and presenting one voice for our common interest.”

After the guest speakers have left, a motion will be put by Mr G. S. Brockett, manager of the Games swimming team, and seconded by the New Zealand Rowing Association president, Mr D. Rowlands, that a national federation be formed.
