The camera-shy world chess champion, Bobby Fischer, will appear on Bob Hope’s television show with America’s other new sports hero, the Olympic swimmer, Mark Spitz, the N.B.C. said.
Fischer has signed a contract to appear on the show, to be taped on Sunday and broadcast on October 5, for an undisclosed
amount of money, the network said. Asked what Fischer would do on the show, the spokesman said “I wish we knew.”
