NEW ZEALAND BOOKS ON DISPLAY

New Zealand Book Week begins this year on Friday, September 29 —the day after the announcement of the winner of the 1972 Wattie Book of the Year Award — and will run until October 6.

An annual event which has been held for many years, New Zealand Book Week is supported by the New Zealand Book Trade Organisation, the New Zealand Publishers Association and the New Zealand Book Sellers Association.

The primary aim of the week’s promotions is to bring to the attention of the public the achievements and the value of many of New Zealand’s authors, artists and poets who have had works published during the year. In Christchurch, the week will be marked by displays in most book shop windows, and in the larger stores, such

as Whitcombe and Tombs, special displays will be set up inside the shop.

For about the last five years. New Zealand Book Week has been held in conjunction with the finals of

the Book of the Year Award, which is sponsored by Sir James Wattie.
