Two ways to bleach timber
Using oxalic acid.— Apply a concentrated solution of oxalic acid. When the timber has dried brush off to remove the acid crystals, then wash with clean water. To make oxalic acid solution, dissolve loz oxalic crystals in 6oz of very hot water. Using ammonia and peroxide. — The ammonia should be of 880 specifications and the hydrogen peroxide of 100 volumes specifications. Soak a pad in ammonia
and swab it evenly over the surface of the timbef. Allow to soak in for five minutes. Next soak a second payj in hydrogen peroxide and swab on top of the ammonia-treated surface. For a second ammonia peroxide bleach, apply 20 per cent strong ammonia solution in water to the surface of the timber and while still wet apply hydrogen peroxide. Allow the work to stand 36 to 48 hours to dry thoroughly before sanding.
