Cheque theft alleged
(N.Z. Press Association) BLENHEIM, Sept. 26. The wife of a retired union secretary was charged in the Blenheim Magistrate’s Court today with the theft of a $lOOO cheque, the property of the Workers’ Union, in Christchurch, on March 15, 1971.
Mrs Marilyn Anne Dempster, of Picton, was remanded by Mr J. S. Fuller, J.P., on bail of $5OO to October 4. She was represented by Mr M. D. Hill. No plea was taken. Detective Sergeant E. J. Stackhouse prosecuted. An application for interim suppression of name was refused.
The charge is identical with one on which Mrs Dempster’s husband, William Alexander Orema Dempster, appeared in Blenheim last week; he was also remanded on bail to October 4.
