United cup side to play Brighton
Christchurch United will have only its left-back, G. Davis, and goal-keeper, A. Fleming, missing from the Gillette Chatham Cupwinning side for the Jefferies Trophy match with New Brighton at English Park this evening.
Davis, who is on holiday, will be replaced by J. Oliver, and W. Weir will be in goal in Fleming’s place. A third change wifi be S. Cameron for G. Dacombe, but Dacombe will be included among the reserves. Brighton expects to field its strongest side: D. Phillips, W. McKennia, T. Langan, W. Chisholm, J. Kroon, A. Smith, G. Taylor, S. Cully, W. Quirke, G. Storer, C. Cawley. This will be the fourth meeting between the two clubs this season, the present score standing at two wins for United and a draw. The profits from the evening’s soccer—the main match 'will kick off at 7.30 pjn. and
the curtain-raiser between the club’s reserve teams at 6.15 p.m.—will be divided between New Zealand’s World Cup soccer squad and the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association. The gold medals won by two Christchurch rowers in the New Zealand Olympic eight and the Chatham Cup will be on view to spectators. The United side will do a lap of honour with the cup at about 7.15 pm.
Rugby.—The Hawarden District High School’s primary departmenVs first XV completed its season by winning all fifteen games played and scoring 463 points with only 29 points scored against.
