“The Press’' Special Service OTAKI. Black Rod finished with a brilliant final sprint at Otaki yesterday morning in preparataion for the Hawke’s Bay Guineas at | Hastings today. Galloping 40ft out on the course proper, which ;was firm, Black Rod finished 'brilliantly over three furlongs in 36 4-ssec. j Saturday’s sprint candidate, Ash. covered half a mile easily tin 55 4-ssec, the last three furlongs in 41 4-ssec. He is a defin-1 jite improver. —
