Airlift halted
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright)
LONDON, Sept. 20.
A planned flight of Asian immigrants from Uganda was unexpectedly called off yesterday while in Kampala the Army issued a tough ultimatum and alleged “delaying tactics” were being adopted. British officials in London said that they were not certain when the Asian airlift would get going again. The “immigrant special” scheduled to bring a second planeload of passengers to Britain, was first postponed until today, then cancelled. The officials said the flight had been cancelled because there were not enough Asians cleared to leave Uganda. They said they had cleared more than 8000 Asians for travel to Britain and blamed the Ugandan Administration for not processing the refugees quickly enough. In Kampala, Radio Uganda accused the Asians of em-| ploying delaying tactics and warned that if they wanted to avoid trouble with the Army they should come forward quickly to get clearance to leave the country.
