Restraint ending?

CV.Z. Press Association)

DUNEDIN, Sept. 20

Current economic restraints might be eased about the middle of next year, the Prime Minister (Mr Marshall) indicated tonight.

In an address prepared for delivery to the OtagoSouthland Manufacturers’ Association and the Otago Chamber of Commerce, Mr Marshall said that current restraints on wages and prices would be maintained and enforced firmly until conditions were such that they could be withdrawn. “We expect the results of the Budget strategy to become apparent in the first two quarters of next year and if our hopes of expansion to a 4 to 5 per cent growth rate, accompanied by a significant increase in productivity', are realised then, at that stage, we should be able to contemplate an easing of the current restraints,” Mr Marshall said.
