Squad for All Black game
(N.Z.P. .4. Staff Correspondent) LONDON. The London Counties Rugby selectors have named six of the 1970 Lions in a squad of 40 men to train for the match against the All Blacks at Twickenham on November 11.
But it is likely that only one Lion, A. Biggar, will be in the team that takes the field. The other five, J. Williams, G. Davies, G. Evans. M. Roberts and J. Taylor, are expected to be chosen for the Welsh national trial on the same day, which takes precedence. Mr M. Turner, the chairman of the London Counties selectors, said: “We can’t forecast who will be in the Welsh trial. We have picked them all and we will see what happens.” The London Counties game is often regarded as one of the highlights of an All Black tour of Britain, because the match is usually played two weeks before the first international, and because Counties usually fields a strong team.
This year the match is fifth on the itinerary, three weeks before the Welsh interna-
tional, and it is thought that if the All Blacks can survive their first three matches against the tough Western Counties, and the toughest Welsh clubs, Llanelli and
Cardiff, then the Counties will not be too hard.
The 40-man squad named today includes English. Irish, Scottish and Welsh players who live or have recently lived in London. The squad is:—
Backs.—J. Williams. T Jordan, R. Codd, A. Biggar. G. P. Phillips, G. Davies. N. Boult. M. Bulpitt, A. Richards, J. Janian. D Cooke. A. -Friell. D McKay. K Hughes. J. Shanklin. P Simmons C. Saville, N. Starmer-Smith, \V Hullin. J. Montgomery.
