Bulls average $815

Bulls to the value of more then $50,000 were sold at the ninth annual sale of the Marlborough Pedigree Beef Breeders 4 Association at Blenheim this week. The average price for the 62 head sold, of both Hereford and Angus breeds, was slightly better then MIS. The sale was described as a very strong one, with competition for Herefords from as far south as Gore. This note was maintained to the end. the last two bulls to be offered bringing $l2OO and $lOOO respectively. Of the offering of 65 head, only three were passed in. The all breeds’ champion in the show held in conjunction with the sale was a two-year-old Hereford from J F. Cooper. Ltd. which went on to top the sale

when sold to Bluff station for $1750. Another Cooper bull was second among the Herefords and sold to Gore for $l2OO. The thirdprize Hereford was from H. E. Williams Altogether, 28 Herefords were sold out of 29. and averaged almost $BO3 each. J. F. Cooper. Ltd, also had a sale at $l5OO to Gore and for 12 making from $6OO to $1750, with five selling at $llOO or better, the average for the team was $996. The Glenfield stud also had a sale at $l5OO, with its three sales ranging down to $375. H. E. Williams realised from $550 to $lOOO for six. J. L. Allen sold four from $5OO to $7OO, and Leov Bros had three making from $3OO to $6OO. The Angus placed first in the show was an entry from R. P. Waddy. and headed the Angus

section at $l6OO, being sold to P- P- L. Dillon (Blenheim). The second and third place-getters were from G. L. Hocquard, and brought $l2OO and $ll5O. For 34 of the offering of 36 black bulls, the average price was almost $826. With six selling at $lO5O or better, R. P. Waddy had an average of $1137.50 for eight, the same average being recorded by Mr Hocquard for four, which brought from $lOOO to $l2OO. R. W. Palmer had four sales at between $650 and $950, A. L. Ferguson seven from $6OO to $9OO, Tyntesfield station six from $550 to $750. and J. B. Hickman five from $550 to $7OO. The auctioneers were Dalgety New Zealand, Ltd, the New Zealand Farmers’ Co-operative Association. Ltd, .Pyne, Gould, Guinness, Ltd. and Wrightson-NMA, Ltd.
