FINAL IN RUMANIA

Davis Cup (N.Z.P. A. -Reuter —Copyright) NEW YORK. The 1972 Davis Cup final between the United States, the title-holder, and Rumania, will be played in Bucharest on October 13, 14 and 15, the United States Lawn Tennis Association announced yesterday. The announcement ended a controversy that had arisen over whether the match should be played in the United States or Rumania. Under a strict interpretation of the cup rules, the venue should have been played in the United States, but Rumania’s top players, I. Nastase and I. Tiriac, had been quoted as saying they would refuse to play anywhere but in Rumania. Rumania has unsuccessfully challenged the United States for the cup twice in the last four years — losing 0-5 at Cleveland in 1969 and 2-3 in 1971 at Charlotte.
