H.-P. trade up 21 p.c.
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 25. Hire-purchase trading amounted to $236.3m for the year ended June 30, 1972, an increase of $41.7m or 21.4 per cent on the previous 12 months, according to the Government Statistician (Mr J. P. Lewin). During the June quarter, 1972, surveyed hire-purchase sales were $61.5m, a rise of $14.7m or 31.4 per cent on the previous June quarter. In this quarterly increase motor vehicles accounted for 37.8 per cent (from $29.4m to $40.5m) and other household and personal goods (excluding television sets) 26.5 per cent (from $9.6m to $12.2m).
The value of hire-purchase television set sales by surveyed businesses fell 2 per cent (from $511,000 to $501,000). The average amount on motor vehicle hire-purchase agreements was $965.
