Chess title shared
Heaton, the winner last year, and Kirkwood shared the interj mediate schools’ chess title . which ended at Kirkwood on Thursday. Although both schools had vied for the lead throughout the tournament thev were equal for the first time aher the final round. Resuls were:— Round 7.—Manning 3. Branston 3; Heaton 6. Casebrook 0: South 5, Chisnallwood 1; Kirkwood 5. Shirley 1: Cobham a bye. Round B.—Heaton 3. Shirlev 3: Cobham 3, Manning 3: Casebrook 3, Chisnallwood 3; Kirkwood 6. Branston 0; South a bve. Round 9.—South 3. Casebrook 3; Chinallwood 5, Shirlev 1: Heaton 6. Branston 0: Kirkwood 5, Cobham 1; Manning a bye. Final placings were:—Heaton and Kirkwood. 38J points, equal 1: Cobham. 26, 3; South. 24i. 4; Shirley. 23|, 5; Chisnallwood. 21 J. 6; Manning. 20i. 7; Casa- | brook. 121, 8: Branston. 10|. 9. Hole-in-one.—A holc-in-one was was scored by Colin Wilson, of Methven. in the Campbell Trophy mixed foursome semi-final at the Methven Golf Club course recently. He used a 5-iron at the i part-three “Shorty” hole.
