Oranges
Sir,—For a considerable time my wife and I have each enjoyed an orange before retiring. They have been very expensive, but we thought them a worth-while health food. During recent weeks, however, although they have looked the same, most of them have been dried-up, almost juiceless, and quite inedible. Who is responsible for the importation of this extremely poor-quality fruit? —Yours, etc., A.P. August 18, 1972. [Mr C. R. Walker, general manager of Fruit Distributors, Ltd, replies: “Fruit Distributors, Ltd, imports oranges from the world’s best sources of supply of highquality fruit. Shipments are inspected on arrival by the Department of Agriculture and the reports, this year particularly, have been excellent. Unfortunately however, some fruit does not reach the consumer quickly enough and it is fruit that has been kept for some time that commences to lose its juice content. If the correspondent purchases any more of this alleged inferior fruit, it would be well for him to contact the office of the importers, Fruit Distributors, Ltd, 160 Lichfield Street, Christchurch, telephone 30-497.”]
