Memorial Avenue

Sir, —The neglect of the plantings in question is there for all to see and cannot be disputed. I accept Mr Rich’s word for it that the Christchurch City Council actually did the original planting; otherwise I stand for what I have already said in my letter of August 7 on the sorry outcome of the original excellent concept of a tree-lined avenue leading to the city as a fitting memorial to fallen men.—Yours, etc., AMALGAMATE. August 24, 1972.
