The United States dollar yesterday maintained the renewed strength it had acquired in the world’s currency markets because of optimism in some quarters that President Nixon will be able to arrange a negotiated settlement in the Vietnam war before the Presidential election. The Reuter Economic Services Currency Index, which makes a daily calculation of currency value comparisons, recorded the dollar’s rate against the non-dollar currencies as being at its highest level for over six months. The only key currency which improved against the dollar yesterday was the Japanese yen.
