Riccarton Racecourse
Sir,—l attended the Grand National meeting, a bitterly ■ cold day. The cold made the $1 buffet luncheon very popular, but what a delusion! All that was offering was ’ cold meats, salads and warm savouries; the coffee was hot. The service was inadequate. I asked for utensils to eat my meal but apparently they ’ could not keep up with the dish-washing. I have attended race meetings overseas, including the Melbourne Cup, but have not experienced this ■ before, even at the jackpot : meeting at Marton. On the . second floor we went to have I a drink. This was like walk- : ing through a swill due to i bottles of liquid broken and ; not cleaned up. What an . image for a well-supported . club!—Yours, etc., (MISS) M. J. FAIRHALL. Blenheim. i August 8, 1972. ' [A spokesman for Burke’s ■ Caterers, Ltd, replies: “A hot ’ meal was available in the public cafeteria and this was : advertised in the race books. ; Your correspondent’s com- ■ ments on the bar are an exaggeration.”]
