Rolling Stones' double L.P.

Exile on Main Street. The Rolling Stones. 2coc, 2900.— This latest Stones contribution is a double L.P. and is full of good time typical Rolling Stones rock and roll. "Rocks Off,” the first track on this delightful package, sets the pace of the album and features some very fine saxophone breaks by B. Keys. Side one reaches a peak with a hard-driving rock tune called “Hip Shake.” Vocal work is by Mick Jagger who also plays harmonica. The remaining three sides are well up to the standard of side one. The Rolling Stones live up to their reputation as one of the best rock bands of this decade. With the Rolling Stones on this album are lan Stewart, pianist on “Hip Shake,” Al Perkins (of Manassas) plays steel guitar on “Tom and Frayed,” and

Bill Plummer assists on bass and vocals. Mary Travers, Warner Brothers.—Mary Travers, of the famous trio, Peter, Paul, and Mary, offers here an L.P. of varying quality. Some tracks are beautiful, others not so good. In the early days of the new brand of folk music Peter, Paul, and Mary became famous for bringing out refreshing treatments of Bob Dylan compositions, “The Times They are AChanging,” “Blowing In the Wind,” and others. On this L.P. file composing is shared

by five persons, Alan Taylor, Jean Siibelius, David Buskin, Paul Williams and Lee Holdridge. The best song on the album is a David Buskin composition called “The Rest Of the Year.” This number has all the ingredients of a good ballad. The lyrics are well written, the melody line is good and Mary Travers gives the track added flavour with very soothing vocal work. Assisting Travers on this L.P. are Russell George, bass; Jay Berliner, guitar; Paul Griffen, piano; and Artie Kaplan, the orchestral manager.
