BACK AT WHEEL

Lawrence practices (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. The racing driver, G. Lawrence, practised on the Pukekohe circuit today for the first time since his accident on January 8. ‘‘lt's really great to be back,” said Lawrence after a few laps in a Fiat 125 T he will share with the New Zealand saloon car champion, P. Fahey, in the Benson and Hedges 500 next month. Lawrence was seriously injured in a New Zealand Grand Prix accident. His was one of two cars which touched at 150 miles an hour. The driver of the other car, B. Faloon, of Tauranga, died on his way to hospital.

‘‘The accident in no way comes into my mind,” said Lawrence. “I can’t remember anything about it, and to be quite honest, I don’t really want to.” Lawrence’s left foot has been in plaster since the crash.
