Girl sailors excel

(N Z P A-Reuter —Copyright) FREDERIKSHAVAN (Denmark), August 22.

The crew of 44 girls aboard the British schooner Sir Winston Churchill have apparently sailed to victory in their division tn the Tall Ships race, after crossing the finish line at Skaw.

Sail-training officials in Malmo, Sweden, who organised the race from the Isle of Wight to the Skaw, are almost certain that the girls have won their class on handicap, ahead of the 300ton schooner, Malcolm Miller, which has an all-boys crew.

The girls also seem to have beaten ships from the French and Belgian Navies, end entries from Greece and the Netherlands Antilles.

The girls battled against gales in the 645-mile voyage from the Isle of Wight, where they started, with 45 other vessels, last Wednesday. Four of the sh'ps had to retire because of bad weather.
