Fendalton Road

Sir, —Fendalton Road being the main way to the city from Harewood airport, protests about its widening should be reconsidered. Fendalton Road residents would be variously affected, some seriously. These owners should be offered alternative sites for rebuilding, say, on Fendalton Park, which is more suitable for home sites than for its present use. I remember Councillor A. R. Blank being much against having this park there. The St Barnabas’ Church property would be the least affected, the church being wisely sited well back. The three or so trees, reported to be 100 years old, are actually about 50 years. They were not there when I was a chorister; only a macrocapa hedge. Fendalton Road widening will not mean the end of Fendalton, and I hope the residents will co-operate with the widening proposals for the benefit of the city generally. —Yours, etc., R.H.L.
