University wins
A polished performance by the former Canterbury full-back, W. J. Lewis, was the highlight of University A’s 29-7 victory over Sydenham in the final of the Challenge Cup competition at Lancaster Park on Saturday.
The University backs were in excellent form and their fine attacking play had Sydenham’s defence struggling Lewis provided additional thrust with his well-timed entrances into the back-line, and his assured positional play exposed the folly of Sydenham’s overkicking. P. N. Duncan led the
University forwards well, and D. Morrison dispatched the ball with alacrity to his five-eighths.

UNIVERSITY A 2» (R. Scott 2. M. P. Collins, N. Whiteman, and Lewis tries; Lewis three conversions and a penalty goal) beat SYDENHAM 7 (A. Ellis a try; M Pepper a penalty goal).
MAR IST M (B. Kelly two tries; R. Gray two penalty goals and a conversion) beat BELFAST 13 (M. Hall, G. Kilday tries; P Brooking a penalty goal and a conversion).
MERIVALE-PAPANUI 14 (D. Smitheram, W. Mene tries; M. Storey two penalty goals* beat UNIVERSITY B 8 (R Scott and R, Doyle tries).
