OTAGO’S BIG WIN

34-4 against Wairarapa (N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN. A tremendous display of rucking power by the home forwards, which virtually denied Wairarapa-Bush any possession from broken play in the loose, enabled Otago to beat the touring North Island rugby team, 34-4, on a heavy ground at Carisbrook yesterday. Otago scored three fine tries in each half, all featuring movements of up to 60 and 70 yards, and led 17-nil at half-time. Wairarapa scored its try in the last five minutes from N. D. Taylor, the No. 8. The Otago pack was brilliantly led by the South Island prop, J. Matheson, while full-back, L. W. Mains, had a hand in opening the way for three Otago tries as well as scoring one himself. Of the visiting players, the New Zealand Junior flanker, P. J. Ryan, stood out for a fine all-round display in loose, tight and line-outs. Otago was depleted by injuries to All Blacks, L. Colling and K. Murdock, and the New Zealand Juniors, G. McGee and G. Sims. For Otago, tries were scored by R. Mitchell (2), T. Morrison (2), L. Mains and J. Matheson, and Mains converted two tries and kicked two penalties.

Hole-in-one.— Mrs W. Stocks [scored an ace at the 110-vard seventeenth hole at the Amberley golf course during a recent I competition. She used a 6-lron.
