Transport Bd rating anomaly alleged

The Christchurch Transport Board needed to review its rating system, said the Deputy Mayor (Mr R. S. Lester) at a meeting of the Riccarton Borough Council last evening.

"The board gives a service to Lyttelton Borough, but the borough does not tax the board’s rates,” he said. "It amazes me that the board appears to have worked in with the Railways Department in cancelling the Lyttelton train services. The Lyttelton bus service is being provided by capital invested by the people of Christchurch. “It is about time we had the right to defend our ratepayers and people. We have no power to object to the board’s rates. We just collect them for the board. We

should ask for the same consideration as is given to Lyttelton.”
