Bangladesh clashes

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) DACCA, July 24. More than 100 people were injured, 48 seriously, in clashes yesterday between two rival factions of a student branch of Bangladesh’s ruling Awami League, police sources said. The leader of one of the factions, Mr Abdur Rab, received multiple head and abdomen injuries and doctors said that his condition was serious. The clashes took place on the last day of simultaneous three-day conventions held lay the two factions only two miles from each other. The sources said that a procession of one faction, which supports the Bangladesh leader, Sheikh Mujib, was attacked by supporters of the rival “Scientific Socialist” group, which is led by Mr Abdur Rab.

Later the pro-Mujib group retaliated and attacked a procession of Mr Abdur Rab’s faction, the sources said.
