Giant squid

Sir,—ln reply to “Ecologist,” I would like to enlighten him. As one of the fisherman concerned, I would like to ask “Ecologist” if he would have towed the squid 10 miles to Kaikoura in a 13-foot open runabout with a moderate southerly blowing. We had the squid in tow to bring it in to the beach where we fish from (Rakautara) but with the freshening southerly and the sea making, we had to cut it loose as we could not bring it through the channel between the rocks. We looked for it on the two following days without

success. If “Ecologist” would like to write to me I would answer him personally with a few more facts.—Yours, KEN GARBES. Kaikoura, July 21, 1972.
