Return of singer
The visiting English soprano, April Cantelo, will not be making her last appearance on the concert platform in New Zealand this year, as previously reported, when she takes part in a Rue Pompallier Gallery subscription concert in Akaroa on Sunday week. Miss Cantelo will leave New Zealand next month when her term as visiting lecturer in music at the University of Canterbury ends, and will spend three weeks touring Australia for the Australian Broadcasting Commission. However, she has been engaged to return by the Royal Christchurch Musical Society, to take part in its subscription concert on September 9. This concert will be entitled "Homage to Vaughan-Williams,” and will mark the centenary of the composer’s birth. Miss Cantelo will be soloist in “Benedicte.” "Serenade to Music,” and "Dona Nobis Pacem.” Christchurch audiences will have another opportunity this week to hear Miss Cantelo sing. She will give a lunchtime concert in the University Hall with Lucv Greene (piano), another staff member of the School of Music. Admission is free.
