CAN-AM TRIUMPH

Come-back by Hulme

(N .Z .P .A .-Reuter —Copyriynt) WATKINS GLEN (New York). The British-based GulfMcLaren team roared to a familiar “one-two” victory in the Watkins Glen Can-Am, 60-!ap, 200-mile race. The McLarens took the lead at the start and were never overtaken. D. Hulme, of New Zealand, made a strong comeback after his Atlanta CanAm accident. He led from the start to the finish and was followed over the finish line by his team-mate, P. Revson, of California, the defending Can-Am champion. The McLarens’ Sunday ride earned them $29,500, with Hulme winning $15,000. G. Follmer, of California, in the L and M Porsche Audi, briefly challenged Hulme and Revson early on, but he went out to replace a turbo-charger spring and a tyre change to correct poor handling and finished fifth. Third was F. Cevert, of France, making his first appearance in a Can-Am race. He drove an exMcLaren team car.

Hulme called his winning McLaren “the nine-day wonder.” His Georgia crash wrecked it, but it was rebuilt in England in nine days and flown to the Glen for Hulme to drive. Hulme now leads the series with 40 points, ahead of M. Minter and Follmer, 28 each.

Roller-hockey.—New Zealand drew with England, 3-3, in a roller-hockey international at Heckmondwike, near Leeds, at the week-end. New Zealand led, 3-1, 10 minutes into the second half. Scorers for New Zealand were P. Money, W. Over, and J. Farnham.
