Sharp rise in costs

Operation costs for the four weeks to June 25 nearly doubled those for the corresponding period last year, the chairman of the finance committee of the Christchurch Transport Board (Mr J. Mathison) reported to the board yesterday.

The net cost of operation was $53,708, compared with $28,901 last year. So far this year the net cost of operation amounted to $200,834, an increase of $65262 but less than estimated by $3541. The Joss was assisted by the drop in passenger journeys of 56,136.
