CHI-CHI DEAD

'.VZ PA KeuteT—CoptjriQlo

MOSCOW, July 23. News of the death of London Zoo’s giant panda. Chichi, has been received with regret by officials at Moscow Zoo, where her rejected suitor An-an was said to be in good health. The deputy director of the zoo (Mr Georgy Sviontovsky) said of Chi-chi’s death: “One can only express regret. But after all, it was old age she died of.” An-an is thought to be about the same age as Chichi. who died yesterday aged 15. He was out in his cage as usual today and Mr Sviontovsky said the panda “isn’t feeling too bad, although of course the heat bothers him.” An-an was flown to London in 1968 for a second attempt to mate him with Chi-chi. But the London panda rejected his advances, as she had done in 1966.
