Fifteenth in succession

(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) ASCOT (England). Brigadier Gerard took his unbeaten run to 15 races w’hen he won the rich King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes on Saturday, but he had to survive a stewards’ inquiry in to his running in the straight before the victory was confirmed. Brigadier Gerard, running over a mile and a half for the first time, overtook Parnell, which led him into the straight, about a furlong and a half out. But in the closing stages he appeared to veer towards the rails, and Parnell’s rider, W. Carson, switched his mount to the outside for a renewed but unavailling challenge. The win took his total earnings to more than £200,000 (about $436,000). Brigadier Gerard needs only one more victory to equal the great Ribot’s unbeaten sequence of 16 races. Brigadier Gerard won by a length and a half from Parnell with the French colt. Riverman, third.
