YEW WINS

(N.Z. Press Association) MELBOURNE. The former New Zealand sprinter Yew, racing without blinkers for the first time, led all the way to win the $4OOO Springbank Handicap <6f> at Moonee Valley on Saturday. Since he has been racing in Melbourne Yew has won four races and they have all been at Moonee Valley. Yew, brought to Australia two years ago by S. A. Brown, but now trained at Caulfield by G. Murphy, was the first to break the line and gave a great display of speed, galloping strongly to the line to win unextended by two lengths. The former Riccarton horse Country Doc (Ribotlight—Mones T Go Round), finished third in the $3OOO Gowrie Handicap (12f). Country Doc was having his fifth start since coming to Australia.
