Three jockeys suspended
(N.Z Pres, Association) TIMARU. i The jockeys, G. R Heaton. MJ J. Skelton and M. C. Thornlev. were suspended at the South Canterbury Hunt Club’s meeting at Washdyke on Saturday. Heaton was suspended for two riding days, till August 5 inclu-j sire, for putting on a jersey after weighing out for Eskav in the Levels Hack Handicap. The: jersey added 21b to his weight His previous record regarding weigh-out offences was taken into account when setting the penalty. In the same race Thornlev was suspended for one riding day (July 29) after he weighed-in 21b over-weight on the fourth horse, Rebel Lad. The trainer. C. McDonald, was' fined $lO for adding a cottonwool pad to Rebel Lad’s gear when he saddled the horse. The committee took this into account and found that Thornley could i still not account for IJJIb over-1 weight except for taking refresh-; ments. Skelton was suspended for one, riding day (July 29) for causing • interference to Achi Baba (C. B. I Ramage) and Zarnia (E. J. Did-| ham) a furlong and a half after' the start of the Washdyke Hack Handicap on the course on July 1. The inquiry had been adjourned because a witness was not available. An inquiry into a check received by Maclane (G. Wright) in the Belmont Handicap with resultant interference to Ennis (J. Pankhurst) when the pair were racing on the inside of Kurd Mahal (K. Morton) was adjourned until next Saturday as Morton had left the course.
