SUDAN PLOT
Statement by Nemery
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) CAIRO, July 22. President Jaafar al-Nem-ery announced in Khartoum yesterday that a plot has been uncovered to overthrow his regime. “A group of conspirators” had been plotting with a unit of the Armed Forces in the last few days to stage a coup d’etat, he said in a speech reported by the Middle East News Agency. President Nemery’s disclosure of the new plot against his regime came in a speech marking the anniversary of last year’s unsuccessful coup. There was a military march to the tomb of those killed in last year’s clashes, where President Nemery laid a wreath. The President said that it was regrettable that a small number of soldiers and former politicians were in sympathy with the instigators of the new plot. At the appropriate time he would put the plotters before the people to decide punishment, he said. The identity of the plotters was not mentioned in reports of the Presidential speech received.
