NEW YORK RUGBY XV
All Blacks’ opponents
(N.Z.P.A. Staff Correspondent) WASHINGTON.
The All Blacks will play a side selected by the Metropolitian New York Rugby Sub-union when they visit New York in October on their way to Britain.
This is the outcome of the New Zealand Rugby Union Council’s decision to have the All Blacks visit there instead of Washington, and a refusal of the sub-union to make arrangements for the match unless the local representative XV is to play.
Mr R. J. Familton, president of the Eastern United States Rugby Union, said yesterday that the game would have the blessing of his union, but that the sub-union would not be permitted to draw on players from other regions to bolster its strength.
Boxing.—The fight between M. Santos (New Zealand) and the Commonwealth light - weight champion, P. Hayles (Jamaica) has now been scheduled for September 18 at the Festival Hall, Brisbane. They were to have met on July 17 but Hayles asked for a postponement after he injured his back in training.
