Innings win to Australia

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) STOKE ON TRENT.

Australia (325 for five declared) beat the English Minor Counties XI by an innings and 26 runs and earned themselves a much-needed day off.

The match finished a day early when the Australians took 19 wickets yesterday dismissing Minor Counties for 161 in their first innings and 138 in their second. The acting-captain, K. R. Stackpole claimed the extra 30 minutes to finish off the stubborn tail-enders. J. Hammond took seven wickets for the day—a career best of six for 15 from 15.2 overs in the first innings—and A. Mallett took four for 13 in the second innings. J. Gleeson and G. D. Watson took three each.
