TENNIS CIRCUIT

Fairlie not hopeful

(N.Z.P.A. Staff Correspondent) WASHINGTON. The New Zealand professional tennis player, B. E. Fairiie, sees little hope that he will be able to play the New Zealand circuit during the 1972-73 season. He said his contract with the World Champion Tennis group would almost certainly prevent his return to New Zealand at that time. He said he doubted if the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association would be successful in any negotiations with the W.C.T. group to have him released from the contract for at least some of the tournaments.

Fairlie lost in the third round of the $50,000 tournament in Washington. He was beaten by the American, C. Richey, 6-2, 6-2 in a game played in humid 95deg. heat.
