Permits given for big jobs
Three major jobs—the $943,744 fine arts building for the University of Canterbury at Ham, the $439,294 Bishop Julius Hall of Residence at Waimairi Rd, and a $369,962 office and amenities building for the Firestone Tire and Rubber, Company, Ltd, at Papanui—swelled the Waimairi County Council’s build-ing-permit figures last month.
Permits to a total value of $2,902,846 were issued, compared with $909,092 in June, 1971. Forty-two new permits for houses, valued at $633,801 compared with 35 permits worth $458,636, were issued last month; and for flats, permits were worth $194,481, compared with $64,415 a year ago. The average cost per square [foot for houses last month was $10.05, compared with I $B.BO a year ago.
