Car-buying review

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 21. A further survey of motor vehicle hire purchase was being made, the Minister of Finance (Mr Muldoon) said today. “But no undertaking can be given as to the action which may follow,” he told the Finance Houses Association in Wellington. “Before easing hire-pur-chase restrictions on new cars I want to be sure that the free market is here to stay.” Mr Muldoon said he believed that too little had been made in public of the fact that after 30 years of shortage it was now possible for the ordinary New Zealander, with no particular contacts or influence, to buy a new car, provided he had the money to pay for it.
