Rommel memorial

A memorial to FieldMarshal Rommel, the "Desert Fox” of World War 11, has been erected in the small village of Wippingen, where he took his own life, perhaps because of his opposition to the Hitler regime. The epitaph is in a plain plaque on top of a crude rock. It reads: “Field-Marshal Erwin Rommel: 14.10.1944.” Rommel after falling out of favour with Hitler, was suspected of links with the abortive military plot to murded the dictator’—Wippingen, July 21.
