S.E. Asia soccer tour
(N.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON, July 18. A tour by the national soccer team involving five games in SouthEast Asia and Australia in early October has been approved in principle by the New Zealand Football Association. The association secretary, Mr G. H. Moore, said yesterday that games had been
offered in Indonesia, Singapore, the Philippines and Western Australia. Although six games had been offered, it was proposed to accept only five. For financial reasons it was unlikely the team would go to the Philippines. Mr Moore said it was likely that the team would go first to Indonesia for three matches. Two of these would be against the Indonesian national team and the other against Australia, which would also be in Indonesia at the time. The team would then go to
Singapore for one match and play another in Western Australia on the way home. The tour is part of New Zealand’s build-up for the World Cup elimination series in Australia next March. “The tour hinges to some extent on the financial arrangements which can be made, but prospects of it taking place are bright,” Mr Moore said. Indonesia had made a good offer which vitrpally amounted to the round-hip air fares for the New Zealand party, he added.
