Rubbish-dump sports fields

A start will be made this year to prepare the first of several playing fields at Smart’s rubbish pit, Hornby, according ip a booklet sent out by the Paparua County Council with its rate demands. The filling of the pit is nearing the proposed levels for the fields, which will be developed progressively at varying levels, so as to create an ampitheatre effect. Trees will be planted at the northeast corner of the property. The council also intends this year to install playground equipment at reserves at Buchanans Road, Gloaming Place, Bermuda Drive, Wales Street and Waitohi Street, and at Leslie Park.
